MEDINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2011
The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on September 20, 2011 at
6:00 p.m. at the Medina City Hall, 2052 County Road 24, Medina, MN.
I. Call to Order
Members present: Crosby, Martinson, Siitari, Pederson, Weir
Members absent: None
Also present: City Administrator Scott Johnson, Police Chief Ed Belland, and
Hamel Fire Chief Brandon Guest.
II. Engineering Services RFP
Johnson presented to the City Council a draft Request for Proposal for City Engineering
Services per City Council direction at the September 6, 2011 Meeting.
The City Council directed staff to advertise the Request for Proposal.
III. Hamel Fire Department Budget — Rate Increase Request
Johnson explained that the Hamel Fire Department has requested a ten percent increase to
their 2012 budget, but had missed the August 15, 2011 deadline to get their request to the
City. As a result this increase was not addressed in the preliminary budget discussions.
Guest explained that the increase is needed because of a reduction in training grant funds
from $5,400 to $2,600, an increase in personnel costs of $8,000, and an update to the
turnout gear acquisition and maintenance costs of $5,000.
The City Council agreed to authorize a ten percent increase in 2012. The ten percent
increase will be split between 2012 and 2013.
IV. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
