MINUTES
The Watertown Board of Health has scheduled a REMOTE ZOOM meeting on
Wednesday August 19,2020 at 7:00 pm
PRESENT: Dr. John Straus, Chairperson and Dr. Barbara Beck, Secretary; Richard Arnold,
Board Member.
Staff: Larry Ramdin, Director of Public Health
CALL TO ORDER: Dr. Straus called the meeting to order 7:03 pm
Minutes
Minutes were approved for July 15 meeting with corrections.
Motions granted (Beck, Arnold 2nd) 3-0.
Public Comment
No public comments.
Introduction Emily Laflamme; Health Officer
Emily was introduced to the Board by Larry Ramdin Director of Public Health. Ms. Laflamme
provide information on her background and training. She indicated that she was happy to be in
Watertown as it provided the right environment for her as she is early in her career. The Board
welcomed her and wished her well.
COVID 19 update
The Board was provided with the latest statistics on Covid 19 in Watertown and activities related
to Covid 19 control. At this time there are 467 Cases, 24 Fatal, 436 recovered and 7 active. The
Department of Public Health is classifying communities according to current cases in a color-
coded chart the link is available on our COVID 19 webpage.
BiotechnoloL,v Regulation
There are positions to fill on the Watertown Biosafety Committee and the Board will be
presented with names to appoint to the Committee next meeting. The Chair and the Director of
Public Health are ex-officio and can nominate a representative in their place.
Department Update
The Department is fully staffed. We have received a letter from Oakley Country asking for
consideration of reinstatement of their tobacco permit which lapsed due to non-renewal in 2019
and 2020. The Club claims that the employee who was responsible for the renewal was engaged
in significant family issues that distracted them. The Board agreed to hear the application at their
next meeting.
