HomeMy Public PortalAbout2023-063 Resolution Setting a Policy for the Disposal of Surplus PropertyRESOLUTION 2023-063 Resolution Setting a Policy for the Disposal of Surplus Property WHEREAS, from time to time, the City of Riverdale, Iowa ("City"), has equipment and other property to dispose of; and, WHEREAS, these reasons may vary from replacement of the equipment or property with new to obsolescence of the equipment or property and, in some cases, result in a recommendation of seeking bids, donation, or permanent disposal of the equipment or property; and, WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to develop a uniform process, including proper oversight and documentation. NOW THERE FOR IT BE RESOLVED that: Section 1. Section 2. Section 3. In the case where a piece of City -owned equipment or property is recommended for sale, City staff will prepare a brief description of the item, along with age, number of years in City custody (if known), and the approximate market value. If the equipment or property is recommended for disposal or donation, this will be noted. City staff may bring a listing of such equipment or property to the City Council from time to time prior to sale or disposal. City Council shall act on these requests via prompt approval of the consent agenda. Following City Council action, City staff shall see that the equipment or property is placed for public bids on a surplus government auction website, and/or is offered for public sale on -site, for an appropriate length of time. Staff will advise City Council on a periodic basis when sales are made via this method, including the amount of the sale for each item. Sale proceeds for street purposes shall be deposited in the Road Use Tax Fund, for sewer purposes in the Sewer Fund, for fire department purposes in the Public Safety fund, and for all other purposes in the General Fund. Section 4. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herein are hereby repealed, to the extent of such conflict. Passed and approved this 25th day of July 2023.
