- More information in Newsletter such as features:
1) Use (hike of the month ) ;
2 ) Open Space ethic (why Open Space is needed, how to care for it) ;
3) Controversy and conflicts;
4 ) District activities.
-Involve public through attitude poll.
- Explain philosophy and policies to public about purchase , management.
- Slide shows for public.

4. Should a committee be formed for the 20th Anniversary?
Suggestions for celebration?
Unanimous board votes for forming a committee--comprised of:
1 ) Subcommittee of the Finance and Legislative committees
2) Representatives from several existing committees
- more than public communications
3) District-wide representation
- Full staff
- Docents
- Volunteers
- Board
- User groups
4) Hire a consultant
5) Coordinated by the General Manager
Suggestions for celebration:
1 ) - Tours
2) - Official picnics
3) - Increase public official contact
4) - Special events for environmental organizations
and special user groups
5) - Encourage public and environmental groups to use
preserves and facilities
6) - Trail and preserve openings and dedications
- Focus on Skyline opening in March
7) - Public outreach programs at each preserve
8) - Everyone, hand out buttons on the trail -- create
public contact
5. DISTRICT PUBLICATIONS
Are current publications what we want? or, What changes should
be made?
- No glossy paper.
- Newsletter of newsprint, appearing regularly.
- Publications are too infrequent.
- Revive the quarterly Open Space Newsletter.
- Docent and Volunteer publications are fine as-is; do not change.
- Newsletter ideas
1) "Nike of the month"
2 ) "Now to find Open Space Preserve"
3) " Introducing Open Space Preserve"
4 ) "Ranger of the Season"
- Need rotating displays in libraries, schools.
- Maps should be much more accurate and readable .
- All-site brochure needs better maps, regulations included.
