Leesburg Accepts Achievement Award for Utilities Department
Customer Service Program at VML Conference
Leesburg, VA (October 7, 2015) –
Last night, at the Virginia Municipal
League’s annual conference in
Richmond, Town of Leesburg
Council Members and staff
accepted the 2015 VML
Achievement Award for the
Utilities Department’s Customer
Service Program.
The award honors the Utilities
Department’s proactive
combination of using technology to
flag unusually high water usage
that could signal possible water
leaks and personal outreach to help customers identify and resolve the problems. Since the
program was implemented in January 2015, the Utilities Department has performed an average
of 500 leak checks per quarter, based on the automatic high usage alerts generated by the
Town’s water meter software. These leak checks have saved customers thousands of dollars in
water usage fees and prevented potential damage to homes by identifying leaks early.
“I am very proud of the Utilities Department’s Customer Service Team and their focus on how
to serve our customers better, by solving problems proactively,” said Kaj Dentler, Leesburg
Town Manager. “They have definitely set a high bar for the rest of the Town’s departments in
the area of customer service, which I have established as a priority for the Town.”
Leesburg’s entry was judged as the best entry in the category for local governments with
populations between 35,001 and 90,000. The entries in the five population categories were
evaluated on criteria that emphasized innovation, efficiency and entrepreneurship. The
