PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, seventy-five years ago, in 1948, the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) began
operations of its sheet and plate rolling mill known as the Davenport Works in an unincorporated part
of Scott County, an economic engine that would help drive growth and economic prosperity in the
region for generations; and,
WHEREAS, in 1950, shortly after ALCOA's Davenport Works fired up its furnaces and equipment to
produce coils, sheets, and plates of high-grade aluminum that would help America build a 21st
century future, the City of Riverdale was incorporated; and,
WHEREAS, in 2016, Arconic launched as a standalone company, continuing to push innovation to the
next level and solving complex engineering challenges that transform the way we fly, drive, and build,
and in 2020, Arconic separated into two standalone companies resulting in the Davenport Works
transitioning to Arconic; and,
WHEREAS, together, the Davenport Works and the City of Riverdale have enjoyed a strong working
partnership extending beyond just simple, civic engagement to include partnerships on topics ranging
from environmental to educational to developmental that have delivered and continue to produce
significant economic dividends for the Quad Cities.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim August 12, 2023 as
