A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD APPROVING
THE APPROPRIATION OF FOUR THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED AND FOURTY-EIGHT
DOLLARS ($ 4,548) FROM THE SHERIFF'S DRUG SEIZURE FUND TO COVER
THE COST OF IMPLEMENTING THE WE TIP CITY PROGRAM
Whereas, WE TIP was founded in 1972 by Bill Brownell, a
retired Deputy Sheriff, and Mariam Brownell. February 15, 1991
marks WE TIP's 19th birthday in fighting crime; and
Whereas, WE TIP grew throughout California and in May 1982
expanded its toll free telephone line to serve the entire United
States, twenty-four hours a day 7 days a week; and
Whereas, WE TIP has provided a viable vehicle through which
citizens from all walks of life in every community can report all
levels of crime without fear of reprisal; and
Whereas, WE TIP operators have taken over 131,800 anonymous
tips leading to over 8,675 cases solved and 3,740 criminal
convictions. WE TIP has aided law enforcement agencies in the
seizure of over $240 million worth of illegal drugs and
narcotics; and
Whereas, a new aspect of the WE TIP program includes the
addition of a national war against the illegal dumping of toxic
waste, serial murders, crimes against children and armed robbery;
and
Whereas, WE TIP continues to be a major force in the
deterrence of crime and therefore is contributing measurably to
the safety of citizens in our communities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Lynwood does hereby resolve as follows:
Section 1 That the City Council authorize the appropriation of
Sheriff's Drug Seizure funds in the amount of four thousand five
hundred and forty eight dollars ($4,548) to cover the cost of
implementing the WE TIP City Crime Prevention Program.
Section 2 That the City Manager or his designee is authorized to
make the said appropriations from Account 11-4552-4220, the
professional and contractual services/account.
Section 3 That this resolution shall go into ,effect immediately
upon its adoption.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 19th day of February ,
1991.
