HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 84-2288 Election: Requesting election support and services with County Board of SupervisorsRESOLUTION NO. 84 -2288 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES TO CONSOLIDATE A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF SAID CITY TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 6, 1984, WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON SAID DATE PUR- SUANT TO SECTION 23302 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Temple City called a special Municipal Election in said city to be held on November 6, 1984, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said city a measure relating to street lighting as hereinafter set forth; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that said special municipal election be consolidated with the statewide general election to be held on the same date and that within said city the precincts, polling places and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the Registrar of the County of Los Angeles canvass the returns of the special municipal elec- tion and that said statewide general election and special municipal election be held in all respects as if there were only one election; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Temple City does hereby resolve, determine, and order as follows: SECTION 1. That pursuant to the requirements of Section 23302 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles be and it hereby is requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of a special municipal election with the statewide general election on Tuesday, November 6, 1984, for the purpose of submitting to the electors of the City of Temple City, measures to appear on the ballot as follows: : Measure No. 1: If Proposition 36 on the state- : wide general election ballot is adopted, does : the electorate ratify and authorize the charges : heretofore levied by the Temple City City Council : for the purpose of maintaining street lighting through the Citywide Lighting Maintenance Dis- : trict for fiscal year 1984 -85, and shall the City : Council be authorized to levy similar annual charges in future years as necessary to maintain and provide such street lighting? : YES • • • • • : NO : : Measure No. 2: If Proposition 36 on the state- : wide general election ballot is adopted, does : the electorate ratify and authorize the City : Council to continue in effect all existing : assessments, fees and taxes (as defined in : Proposition 36), and other rates and charges, : all as in effect on November 6, 1984, regard- : less of whether classified in whole or in part as fees or taxes, provided that no increases : thereto shall be permitted except in accordance : with actual cost increases? • • • • : YES : : NO • • SECTION 2. Said Registrar is hereby authorized to canvass the returns of said special municipal election which it is hereby requested to consol- idate with said statewide general election and said election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. SECTION 3. Said Board of Supervisors is hereby requested to issue instructions to the Registrar to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of said consolidated election. SECTION 4. The City of Temple City recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any such costs. That the City Clerk of the City of Temple City is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the Registrar of the County of Los Angeles. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Temple City at a regular meeting thereof held on August 7, 1984.
