Leesburg Encourages Students to Enter VML’s Annual “If I
Were Mayor” Essay Contest
Contest is open to all Virginia students enrolled in the 7th Grade during the 2015-
2016 school year.
Leesburg, VA (October 29, 2015) – The Virginia Municipal League is now accepting entries in its
annual “If I Were Mayor” essay contest, in which students tell others what they would do if
they were mayor to make their cities and towns better places. The contest is open to all Virginia
students enrolled in the 7th Grade for the 2015-2016 school year. Essays will be judged on
originality, persuasiveness, understanding of local government services and writing quality.
Regional winners from the around the Commonwealth will be selected and each will receive a
$150 cash prize and plaque. In addition, one statewide winner will be selected and will receive
a $250 cash prize and plaque. All winners, and their teachers, will be recognized at a special
ceremony in Richmond. Entry deadline is December 1, 2015. For contest rules and submission
