Town of Leesburg Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting
Award for 34th Consecutive Year
Leesburg, VA (July 20, 2021) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the
United States and Canada has awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial
Reporting to the Town of Leesburg for its Fiscal Year 2020 Comprehensive Annual Financial
Report. Leesburg has received this award for thirty-four consecutive years.
The GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of reco gnition in the area of
governmental accounting and financial reporting. Attainment of this award represents a
significant accomplishment by a government organization and its management. In order to
receive the certificate, an impartial panel judged the Town’s financial report as meeting the
high standards of the GFOA’s program, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full
disclosure” to clearly communicate the Town’s financial story and to motivate users to read the
report.
“It really takes a lot of hard work to win this certificate each year,” said Director of Finance and
Administrative Services Clark Case. “Winning it in a year when everyone was adjusting to
working remotely, due to Covid-19, and responding to the need to process federal grant
programs on a crash basis, is a real tribute to our Controller Lisa Stillman, our Accounting
Manager Bill Felegie, and the entire accounting and management team. Many Town staff from
a variety of Town departments make contributions to this true team effort.”
Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs
of over 20, 000 appointed and elected local, state, and provincial -level government officials and
other finance practitioners. It provides top quality publications, training programs, services, and
products designed to enhance the skills and performance of those responsible for government
