HomeMy Public PortalAbout84-009 (02-07-84)RESOLUTION N0. 84-9 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD KEQUIRING THAT CALTRANS KEMOVE ALL WASTE AT THE WILLCO DUMP TO ASSURE THE SAFETY. OF CITIZENS OF LYNWOOD AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES ~I i WHEREAS, the I-105 Century Freeway is being constructed by Caltrans over the former site of the Willco Dump; and WHEREAS, the dump contains more than 100,000 cubic yards of hazard- ous waste; and WHEREAS, a dispute exists as to the danger of the current Caltrans plan to leave the waste where it is and cover it with asphalt; and 4JHEREAS, additional research findings by Caltrans relative to leaving the hazardous waste at the site cannot fully ensure the safety of Lynwood residents; and WHEREAS, even if the safety of Lynwood were assured, safety of down- stream communitiescannot be guaranteed; and WHEREAS, protection of the health and safety of Lynwood residents is the major concern of the City Council: NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD does hereby find, determine, order and RESOLVE as follows: Section 1. That all waste at the Willco Dump site be removed by Caltrans tb'dssure that Lynwood, as well as other communities, does not suffer health hazards from the contents of that dump.
