Local DAR Chapter Donates Reference Work on Virginia in the
American Revolution to the Thomas Balch Library
Leesburg, VA (November 19, 2015) –
The Ketoctin Chapter of the National
Society of the Daughters of the
American Revolution (NSDAR)
recently presented Thomas Balch
Library with the fifth volume in a
series of state resource guides
published by the NSDAR Library. This
volume, Virginia in the American
Revolution: A Source Guide for
Genealogists and
Historians, provides detailed
information on the availability of
manuscript and archival material that
exists for the state for the period of
the Revolutionary War along with
listings of historical and genealogical studies that have been published and which supplement
the original sources.
The work continues a series of publications, produced by the NSDAR Library, which focuses on
available research and primary source materials in each of the original states during the period
of the American Revolution. Researchers will find Virginia in the American Revolution an
essential resource with which to identify materials and studies located in many scattered
libraries and archives. The book comprises more than 1,330 pages including text pages, map
pages, and an index to the text. Chapter headings include topics such as “Developing a Virginia
Research Strategy,” “Regions, Counties, and Localities in Virginia and the American Revolution,”
and “The People of Virginia during the American Revolution.” The book has been catalogued
and is available for use in the Thomas Balch Library.
The Ketoctin Chapter, NSDAR was founded at Whitehall Farm in Bluemont VA in 1950, the first
such organization ever to be in Loudoun County. Now, with over 200 members, the Ketoctin
