HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2015-11-19 DAR donation to TBL Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Media Contact: Betsy Arnett, Public Information Officer barnett@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2734 Local DAR Chapter Donates Reference Work on Virginia in the American Revolution to the Thomas Balch Library Leesburg, VA (November 19, 2015) – The Ketoctin Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) recently presented Thomas Balch Library with the fifth volume in a series of state resource guides published by the NSDAR Library. This volume, Virginia in the American Revolution: A Source Guide for Genealogists and Historians, provides detailed information on the availability of manuscript and archival material that exists for the state for the period of the Revolutionary War along with listings of historical and genealogical studies that have been published and which supplement the original sources. The work continues a series of publications, produced by the NSDAR Library, which focuses on available research and primary source materials in each of the original states during the period of the American Revolution. Researchers will find Virginia in the American Revolution an essential resource with which to identify materials and studies located in many scattered libraries and archives. The book comprises more than 1,330 pages including text pages, map pages, and an index to the text. Chapter headings include topics such as “Developing a Virginia Research Strategy,” “Regions, Counties, and Localities in Virginia and the American Revolution,” and “The People of Virginia during the American Revolution.” The book has been catalogued and is available for use in the Thomas Balch Library. The Ketoctin Chapter, NSDAR was founded at Whitehall Farm in Bluemont VA in 1950, the first such organization ever to be in Loudoun County.
