RESOLUTION OF THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET TO SUBMIT A
STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATION TO THE STATE OF NEW
JERSEY, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION FOR TRANSIT
VILLAGE DESIGNATION
WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey, through the New Jersey Department
of Transportation and New Jersey Transit have developed a community
revitalization partnership know as the Transit Village Initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret wishes to submit a Statement of
Qualification for Transit Village Designation under the Transit Village
Initiative Program to the Bureau of Statewide Planning of the New Jersey
Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is desirous of establishing a transit
village development district and to promote regulations to enhance the
existing pedestrian friendly environment as identified in the master plan.
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret is desirous of promoting an increase
in jobs, housing and population within Y2 mile of the proposed ferry
terminal in the Waterfront Redevelopment Area; and
WHEREAS, the Borough believes that economic growth around the future
ferry terminal can be achieved in Carteret by promoting transit-friendly
development through its zoning ordinance.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Borough Council of
the Borough of Carteret, in the County of Middlesex hereby:
1. Proclaims its support for economic development within a Y2 mile
radius of the future ferry terminal, and;
2. Directs the Borough Clerk to provide a signed and sealed copy of
this resolution to T&M Associates to include in the Borough's
Transit Village Designation application.
Adopted this 23rd day of September, 2004
and certified as a true copy of the original
on September 24, 2004.
