Police Personnel Board
Minutes-January 9, 2020
The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m.
Ten persons attended as follows:

Following greetings, roll call was taken.
Approval of November 7, 2019 minutes
It was moved by Klindt and seconded by Shoun that the minutes from November 7, 2019 Board meeting be
approved. The motion was carried unanimously.
New Business – Lt. Williams discussed the turnout of the recent testing and there was a discussion regarding
changes and improvements in recruiting and planning efforts in the future which involve more involvement by
the department in the community.
Career fairs, magazine ads, you tube videos, more school involvement, and social media were some of the
ideas that were discussed and the implementation of these outlets in order to better educate potential
candidates about the entire hiring process and also information and examples/videos explaining in depth what
police officers actually do day to day.
Police officer written test - The board also discussed the police officer written test current passing score
and lowering the passing score from 70% to 60%. A motion was made by Scruggs and seconded by Shoun to
lower the passing score to 60 for the Police officer written test in the future. The motion carried unanimously.
Begin Closed Session (see closed session for details)
A motion was made by Backues and seconded by Lehman to go into closed session at 12:15 p.m. for the
Police Personnel Board to go into closed session pursuant to RSMo.610.021 of the revised Statutes of Missouri;
the motion passed.

End Closed Session
A motion was made by Backues and seconded by Klindt for the Police Personnel Board to come out of closed
session at 12:22 p.m. pursuant to RSMo.610.021 of the revised Statutes of Missouri; the motion passed.

Lt. Williams discussed future openings within the next two years in the department. Recruitment is open now
from January 6th through April 24th for the next testing in May, 2020.

Next meeting date- The next meeting will be March 5, 2020
Adjourn
It was moved by Scruggs and seconded by Fleischmann for adjournment. The motion carried. The meeting
was adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
