Modern Era Quilts by the Mason Dixon Quilt Professionals
Network on Display at Leesburg Town Hall
Exhibit features quilts that reflect the Modern Era of United States history.
Leesburg, VA (November 25, 2015) – The
Leesburg Commission on Public Art is pleased to
announce a new exhibit of Modern Era quilts at
Leesburg Town Exhibit Hall, running from
December 1, 2015, through January 31, 2016.
Historians break down United States history into
four distinct eras: Colonial, Antebellum,
Postbellum and Modern. The Mason Dixon Quilt
Professionals Network chose the Modern Era to
challenge their members to craft quilts which
depict an event, a person, a fad, a body of work,
a movement, an idea, or a decade which
occurred between 1914 and 2014. The resulting
twelve quilts in the exhibit cover historical events, persons and phenomena that include the use
of chemical weapons in WWI, the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII, Dr. Seuss,
the emergence of TV as a cultural phenomenon, the Space Program, Vietnam, Flower Power,
the decline of the blue collar worker, recognition of Native American sacrifices, the emergenc e
of video games, ribbons for causes, and Facebook.
Based in the Mid-Atlantic region, the Mason Dixon Quilt Professionals Network (MDQPN) is an
organization that supports, promotes and encourages quality professional quilt services and
acts as a resource for members to market their talents. MDQPN members are quilt artists,
teachers, designers, authors, judges, appraisers, hand/machine quilters and notion/tool
manufactures. For more information about MDQPN, visit their website at
www.MasonDixonQuiltPros.net.
The Leesburg Town Exhibit Hall (LTEH) features rotating exhibits by area artists. Artists
interested having their work considered for a future exhibit in the Leesburg Town Exhibit Hall
should contact Anne Geiger, staff liaison to the Commission on Public Art, at
