Mitchell being absent by pro tem permission Trustee Mitchel was appointed as clerk pro tem Records approved rd the records of regular meeting of Decem 3 were read and approved Bills allowed The following bills were read and referred to the Finance Committee, who after examination repor- ted favorably. on same, and on motion warrants were drawn for the several amounts: viz W.F. Mitchell salary 20.00 L. Hilton salary meals etc 65.25 W P Keenan salaries etc 65.40 M. M. Brooks Hauling etc 4.10 R.W. Graham Justice fees to date 12.00 C.J. Stevens & Co Coal oil etc 28.84 Total 195.59 A petition was read from P. Catanich Petition of P Catanich d for lamp Cor of 2 & asking that a street lamp be placed at the L sts referred d Corner of 2 and "L" streets, Referred to the street committee Report from the Town Marshal of uncollected Report of Officers licenses in his hands was read, and referred back referred back to Marshal to Marshal with instructions to collect the same at once. The following Resolution was introduces by Trustee Beazell, "Resolved" strike out from Par III Sect XI Ord" Resolution to amend "XIII the words "and shall be devided pro rata among" ord XIII <Fire Ordinance> referred. C Chief Engineer MLeod made remarks regarding the storage regarding the storage of Coal Oil, Powder etc in stoves & at his request the Clerk read of powder coal oil the Ordinance referring thereto. Callaghan entered & took his seat Under the head of unfinished business the bids Contract for grading d for grading "2" st & "M" st were opened & read d 2 st & M st awarded Thomas Hayes as follows Thomas Hayes 198.50 John Beck 250.00 Peter Moy 284.00 On motion the bids were received, that of Mr Thos Hayes being the lowest the contract was awarded him, and the clerk instructed to prepare the necessary papers On motion Mr Hayes was allowed until April st 1 to complete contract Partial report The Fire Committee made a partial report in the regarding Extra matter of extra hydrants and were granted more hydrants time to get further information President Stevens & the various trustees spoke regarding uncollected licenses in the Marshals Regarding the non collection of licenses hands, & his apparant loose way of forcing the etc by the Marshal collection of the town income, the subject was discussed in a forceable manner, but no offi- cial action taken On motion adjourned. Coal oil Nails etc 39.37 11 Bills allowed Pay Fire Dept Dec /83_ Mch /84 150.00 Theo Gorner supplies Fire Dept 2.00 $ Total 362.37 th The report of the Town Justice from Jany 7 to Mch Reports of Officers rdd 3 read, rec & placed on file The report of the Town Marshal showing uncollected $50d licenses in his hands of 66 was read, rec and placed on file The Fire Committee made a written report relative to subject of Extra hydrants referred to additional hydrants, and recommended that two committee st be procured, and placed at the Cor of 1 and "M" streets, th and 5 & "J" sts: The question was raised as to the size of the street mains at these points and the matter was finally referred back to the Committee with power to act The Ordinance Committee made a report in the # Ordinance 17 matter of a proposed ordinance, relative to defec- adopted tive flues & dangerous chimneys in the form of an Ordinance, and the same was adopted section by Section and then as a whole, all trustees present- voting for same said Ordinance being entitled "An Ordinance to regulate chimneys, flues etc in" "the Town of Livermore" and numbered 17, The Clerk was instructed to have the same published d Grading done on "2" The street Committee reported that the grading st accepted d of "2" st and "M" st had been completed, and on motion the Board accepted the same: The Clerk presented the assessment roll for grading Assessment roll "M" said streets, which was certified to by the President d & "2" st certified & presented to of the Board, and the Marshal and delivered to the contractor contractor Warrant drawn for On motion the Clerk was instructed to draw a appropriation $00 warrant for 75 in favor of Thomas Hayes, being the appropriation made by the Board towards the Ex- pense of grading Culverts ordered at On motion the Marshal was instructed to notify First and J & K sts the property owners to place culverts at the Corners of- "K" and "First" st and "J" and "First" st Question of Moving The question of removing the Pound and Town pound & Jail laid Jail from their present locations was discussed, over and on motion laid over until next meeting Regarding collection The question of dog licenses was taken under of dog tax consideration President Stevens gave up the Chair to Trustee Mitchel and spoke on the subject of dog tax and its collection, and instructed the Marshal to see that Ordinance No V be rigidly enforced hereafter th On motion adjourned to March 10 1884 at Adjourned 8 P.M. The Board met persuant to adjournment, President Adjourned Meeting Stevens in the Chair_ A full Board present - A petition was presented and read from property Petition to remove owners praying for the removal of the Town Jail d Jail Re & Committee from its present location, On Motion the petition appointed was received, and the Chair appointed Trustee Bea- zell. Callaghan & Mitchel a Committee to select and report on a suitable site to remove the Jail to and report at the next regular meeting A petition was read from property owners asking rd Petition to grade 3 st that "Third" street be graded from "Lizzie" to "Q" street, laid over. On Motion petition was received & laid over until next meeting Mrs Margaret Murphy petitioned the Board for the Petition for Cellar right to make a cellar way from the street to the base- d way Cor 2 & L sts ment of her property at the Cor of "First" & "L" streets laid over. On Motion the petition was received, and laid over until next meeting Chief Engineer McLeod stated that at the next meeting he would suggest changes in the Fire Ordinance On Motion adjourned until Tuesday March adjourned th 11 1884 at 8. C Proposed Chief Engineer MLeod spoke regarding the advisabil- Consolidation of Fire ity of doing away with the separate organizations of Companies referred Hook & Ladder Co. and Hose Co; and uniting them as one. On Motion, the petition for opening "Pearl" street Petition to open and the extension of "O" and "N" streets in the North_ "Pearl" st and extend ern Addition was taken from the table, and after "O" & "N" sts granted & map ordered discussion, it being apparant that the convenience of the public demanded the same, on Motion the prayer of the petitioners was granted, all Trustees present voting for same: The Clerk was instructed to request the County Surveyor to make the necessary map of same. Callaghan Object of Meeting stated The President stated the object of the Meeting Report & survey on was to take action on the surveyors report and extension & opening survey of "Pearl"' "N", "O" and "P" streets as petitioned Pearl N. "O" and "P" sts were discussed and on of Pearl, N.O.P. sts Motion it was decided that the improvements were decided to be Necessary, All trustees present voting for same necessary In accordance with Art IV of Sect X of the Town Comissioners elected charter the Board proceeded to ballot for three Commissioners in Matter of opening to assess damages and benefits to be caused by said improvement, which & extending Pearl. M.
