A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA, URGING REINTRODUCTION OF
LEGISLATION TO REMEDY INEQUITY IN THE SOCIAL
SECURITY SYSTEM WHEREBY PERSONS BORN IN 1917,
1918, 1919, 1920 and 1921 RECEIVE REDUCED BENEFITS
WHEREAS, the current Social Security System pays persons
born in the years 1917, 1918, 1919, 1920 and 1921 approximately
$100 per month less than those born before or after the aforesaid
years; and
WHEREAS, the current Social Security system thus penalizes
those persons born in the years 1917, 1918, 1919, 1920 and 1921; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lynwood urgently
desires that this inequity be remedied; and
WHEREAS, H. R. 5469 which would have remedied this situa-
tion was not adopted during the 1982 legislative session;
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Lynwood, California, hereby supports reintroduction
of H. R. 1965, H. R. 1963, H.R. 4093, H. R. 5904/S 2778 or introduc-
tion of new bills which would insure that persons born in 1917, 1918,
1919, 1920 and 1921 receive benefits equal to those persons born
before or after 1917, 1918, 1919, 1920 and 1921 and which would
remove the penalty to which persons born in 1917, 1918, 1919, 1920
and 1921 are currently subjected.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 6th day of
November, 1984.
