WHEREAS, AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency
syndrome, destroys the body's immune system, leaving its
victims vulnerable to otherwise rare infections. It is be-
lieved to be transmitted through body fluids, but the means
of transmission is not well understood;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council
of the City of Lynwood as follows:
Section 1. In the interest of public health and
safety the President of the United States and the Governor of
the State of California are hereby requested to declare a state
of emergency relative to the AIDS crisis, and to make available
emergency funding to provide for care in a hospital setting for
AIDS victims, and to provide funding for intensive research of
this deadly disease until the epidemic can be controlled and
its causes and cures understood.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 3rd day of
September 1985.
