Leesburg, VA (September 12, 2021) – The Commission on Public Art (COPA) and Friends of Leesburg Public Arts (FOLPA) are excited to announce the official launch of the Arts & Cultural District. On Saturday, September 18, both COPA and FOLPA will partner with BENEFIT’s 2021 Crossroads Music Festival. Twenty-five musicians and bands will perform original music at nine different venues in Leesburg’s historic downtown. With the festival taking place within the Arts & Cultural District, fest ival attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in an interactive art display, a BINGO challenge, attend a public art tour, and learn more about the district and upcoming plans. “Art comes in so many forms with music being just one of them,” said Donna Torraca, commission chair for COPA. “We couldn’t think of a better way to officially launch the district than during the music festival. We are so grateful to the organizers for letting us be a part of it. Everyone is looking forward to promoting the arts and culture that we have while exploring new ideas.” Mayor Kelly Burk will deliver a few remarks, regarding the event, on the courthouse grounds, beginning at 4:45 p.m. Live music will follow beginning at 5 p.m. “Music and art are great ways to bring community member s together,” said Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk. “The Town is proud to be part of BENEFIT’s efforts, and we are excited they are holding the event in venues in the downtown area of Leesburg’s Arts & Cultural District. It is going to be a fantastic evening and we hope festival attendees enjoy their time.” Admission to the event is free however, donations are welcome. Event attendees who purchase a 2021 Crossroads Music Festival ticket will receive an official event t-shirt and a wristband that will provide discounts and specials at participating venues. Tickets are not required for entry at any venue participating in the event. However, proceeds from ticket sales benefit nonprofit organizations that serve children in Loudoun County. Funds raised during the event will be distributed in spring 2022 to Loudoun County nonprofits through a grant application process. Established in 2017, BENEFIT is a coalition of musicians and community leaders uniting people with music to raise funds and awareness for nonprofits serving children. ###
