Leesburg, VA (Sept. 13, 2021) – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Town of Leesburg, in coordination with Loudoun County, are asking travelers to provide feedback on a study regarding potential improvements to Route 7 Business (East Market Street) between Plaza Street and Route 15 (Leesburg Bypass) in Leesburg. The study will assess existing traffic and safety conditions along Route 7 Business, including congestion that occurs during morning and evening peak periods. Route 7 Business currently averages 36,000 vehicle trips a day within the study limits. The Town of Leesburg and VDOT invite residents and travelers to learn more about the study and current conditions in the study area and share feedback online at virginiadot.org/Route7EastMarketSTARS. The survey, which is available in English and Spanish, will remain open through Monday, Oct. 4, 2021. Comments can also be sent to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov or to Ms. Robin Youmans, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 4975 Alliance Drive, Fairfax, VA 22030. The study team will use this feedback to develop potential operational, safety, and accessibility alternatives that will be evaluated and presented during another opportunity for public comment later this fall. VDOT is completing this study through its Strategically Targeted Affordable Roadway Solutions (STARS) program, which aims to identify cost-effective measures to improve safety and reduce congestion. VDOT expects to complete and post the study results by winter. STARS program studies do not create final designs for improvements or set construction dates, but develop improvement concepts that localities can pursue for funding. The Town of Leesburg will use the results of the Route 7 Business STARS study to develop the scope for a future capital improvement project. Once the project scope is finalized, staff will identify funding sources and incorporate the project into the Town’s Capital Improvements Program. # # #
