OLD BUSINESS: Conference Call with USS Jefferson City Submarine Representatives Mayor Tergin gave a brief overview of her trip to Pearl Harbor and the ships she visited. The Committee had a conference call with USS Jefferson City Submarine Captain of the Boat, Commander Steven Dawley and the Chief of the Boat, Senior Chief Mark Szymanski to discuss the status of the USS Jefferson City overhaul and sea trials. Captain Dawley provided some of the general time frame for sea trials indicating that he hoped to have the USS Jefferson City back to the fleet by Christmas. Captain Dawley responded to several questions from the Committee. The Committee Members asked Captain Dawley what the City and Committee could do to support members of the USS Jefferson City. Captain Dawley said he would give it some thought, but suggested that perhaps cosponsoring a family picnic would be a good idea. When asked if there was something the City could provide for the boat, Captain Dawley said a picture of the Capitol would be appreciated. Captain Dawley noted that there are some federal/governmental restrictions regarding gifts/contributions to service members (and their families), so due consideration would need to be given to any potential gifts/contributions. Captain Dawley indicated an appropriate time to speak again with the Committee would be sometime in mid-July. No action was necessary. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None.
