Snow removal operations and storm recovery activities will continue well into next week. Town officials request residents’ patience and cooperation as town crews work around the clock to clear roadways and provide access to essential services. Primary routes are the Town’s first priority for snow removal, followed by secondary roads and thoroughfares. Neighborhood streets will be plowed once primary and secondary routes are clear. Residents should not expect neighborhood streets to be plowed until early next week. On Sunday, residents may see plows clearing access to critical facilities or for emergency crews. This work will not indicate that neighborhood street plowing has begun. The weather is expected to be clear and sunny on Sunday, January 24. Residents may be tempted by the nice weather to go out on the roads. Town officials urge residents to stay home and off the roads as snow removal operations will still be in progress. In addition, the sunny weather on Sunday is likely to lead to some snow melt which will refreeze overnight creating icy patches on roadways. There is a possibility of rain on Tuesday, January 26. With storm sewer inlets blocked by snow, the rain will stay on the roadways creating extremely dangerous icing situations. In advance of this rain, residents can help avoid problems by clearing snow from in front of storm sewer inlets. Residents can the Town’s Snow Hotline (703-777-SNOW) to hear a recorded message about the current status of snow removal operations. After the message, a Town staff member will answer the line if residents wish to report problems. Residents should call 911 to report emergenices, not the hotline.
