HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL NR 2021-11-26 Leesburg Planning & Zoning Director Susan Berry-Hill Announces Retirement Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release November 30, 2021 Media Contact: Leah Kosin, Assistant Public Information Officer lkosin@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2781 Leesburg Planning & Zoning Director Susan Berry-Hill Announces Retirement Leesburg, VA (November 30, 2021) – Susan Berry-Hill, Planning & Zoning Director for the Town of Leesburg, has announced that she will retire at the end of March 2022, after more than 13 years with the Town. Berry-Hill was hired in July 2008. She has worked on a number of major projects, which include: • Replacement of the H2 overlay and guidelines with the new Gateway District and guidelines • A rewrite of the Town Plan, which is currently being completed by the Planning Commission and soon to be forwarded to the Town Council for adoption. • Parking study and ordinance amendment for the downtown. • Development of form-based code for the Crescent Design District. • Key land development applications include: Virginia Village (public hearing held by Town Council on November 23 and work session scheduled for); NorthStar School, Tuscarora Village, Shops at Russell Branch, Crescent Place, Crescent Parke, Church and Market, Loudoun County Courthouse Expansion, and King Street Station. “The Town is a wonderful blend of rich history combined with dynamic community development opportunities,” Berry-Hill said. “The Town organization is filled with truly dedicated and talented staff. Together these things have made for a very enriching career.” Prior to her time with Leesburg, Berry-Hill worked for Loudoun County’s Planning Department where she reviewed land use applications for rezoning and special exceptions. Her retirement marks the end of a 40-year career in the planning profession. “Congratulations to Susan on her well-deserved retirement,” said Leesburg Town Manager Kaj Dentler. “She was hired by John Wells and myself almost 14 years ago to provide a calming leadership influence within the Planning Department that was in turmoil at the time. Susan not only achieved that, but provided the Town with the necessary professional planning guidance during continued periods of change and growth. I am very proud of Susan and she will be greatly missed.” According to Dentler, the Town will begin the recruitment process for a new Planning & Zoning Director in December 2021. # # #
