Captain Vanessa Grigsby to Serve as Interim Chief of Police for
Town of Leesburg
Leesburg, VA (February 4, 2016) – Town Manager Kaj
Dentler announced this morning that Captain Vanessa
Grigsby will serve as interim Chief of Police for the Town,
following Chief Joseph Price’s retirement on March 1, 2016.
“I am confident that under Vanessa’s leadership the
Leesburg Police Department will continue to provide the
excellent protection that our residents rely upon,” Dentler
commented. “Her breadth of first-hand experience and
knowledge of the department’s operations will prove
invaluable in this new role.”
Captain Vanessa Grigsby has been with the Leesburg Police
Department since August 1996. She is currently Division
Commander of Adminstration and Support Services, a
position to which she was promoted in December 2014.
Captain Grigsby served as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Section from May to
December 2014 and as a Patrol District Commander from March 2004 to May 2014. Previous
positions with the Leesburg Police Department include Patrol Sergeant, School Resource
Officer, Patrol Officer and Detective.
Captain Grigsby holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and is a 2013 graduate of the FBI
National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Prior to her career in law enforcement, Captain
Grigsby served on active duty in the United States Army as an administratve specialist and
intelligence analyst, with assignments in Germany, Spain, and Fort Huachuca, Arizona .
The Town has engaged the International Association of Chiefs of Police to conduct a nation-
wide executive search for the Town’s next Chief of Police, with the expectation of making a
selection in four to six months.
