This ordinance called for annexing property owned by Mr. Douglas Carlson and Mr. Clarence:Pecore on Highway 17, North. A motion was made by Alderman Church and seconded by Alderman Joslin to hold a.-specia? meeting on August 26 for a second reading and final action of this ordinance. Carried. A recommendation from the Zoning- rd of Appeals, that Mr. Ed. Treu, City Inspector, be paid for any meetings of the board that he attends when they are extended beyond 4.30 P.M., was read to the council. Motion to adopt this recommendation was made by Alderman Locke and seconded by Alderman Bohne. On roll call, carried. Amenzo Warden requested that the new gas ordinance be aended to conform with the one adopted by .the city of Kaukauna. This was refered to the Protection of Persons & Property Committee by a motion made by Alderman Church and seconded by Alderman Bohne. Carried. Mr. Ronald Sturm inquired about the purchase of some property on Mill St,. is was, referred to the Public Property Committee. The mayor read Fire Chief Hamilton's letter of resignation, and mentioned that he had appointed William Bates acting.chief until the Police and Fire Commission met,and.,took action. A motion to accept the letter of resignation was made by Alderman Rosenkranz and seconded by Alderman Grant. Carried. on by Alderman Kunach and seconded by Alderman Rosenkranz that this n appreciation of Chief James Hamilton's long and faithful years of service to the community as Fire Chief. The Council accepts the resignation with the deepest regret and wished him success in his new position." Carried. COMMITTEE REPORTS FINANCE: Recommended that the City Treasurer be directed to send a not by registered mail, return receipt requesteds to each delinquent tax account on the roll; that if there is no response from the taxpayer within ten days to follow the notice up iwth a personal call and get a commitment of settle- ment from the delinquent account; that if no agreement on collection is reach- ed with the delinquent, or when an agreed time has expired with a commitment unfulfilled, that the Treasurer issue a warrent to the Police Department for the uncollected taxes and the Police Department use every and all lawful procedures at their command to collect the amounts due. Motion to approve this recommendation was made by Alderman Chandler and seconded by Alderman Kunach. Carried. PUBLIC WORKS: Recommended p acing "Trave . At Your ,rn Risk" signs at the Phillip St. Bridge and"Peden-trians Only" signs on the crosswalk across the Chicago & North Western tracks near the Sb ci:ek Clinic. Motion to approve this recommendation was made by Alderman Kunach and seconded by Alderman Rosenkranz. -Carried. A sidewalk was discussed for Lincoln St. and was referred to the Protection of Persons & Property committee for their recommendation at the next meeting. WATER: Recommended the installation of a lift station at a cost of 00 on Woodland Drive and on Rose St. at a cost of $10,900. Installations e made by the Layne Nor .west Co. Motion to approve this recommendation was made by Alderman Grant and seconded by Alderman Bloomquist. On roll call, carried. Recommended the purchase of a -sewer rodding machine from O'Brien Bquiprnent Co. for $4,200. Motion in, favor of the purchase was made by Alder- man Bohne and seconded by.Alderman Rosenkranz. On roll call, carried with Alderman Chandler voting against. Recommended the transfer of $15,000 from the General Fund to the Water Department to meet current expenses, for 90 days. (Motion for this transfer was made by Alderman Bohne and seconded'by Alderman Bloomquist. 0n roll call, carried. Motion by Alderman Kunach and seconded by Alderman Locke that this committee make a recommendation at the August 26th meeting regarding a solution to the hammering of water lines on the West side. Carried. PROTECTION OF PERSONS & PROPERTY:, Motion by Alderman Kunach and seconded by Alderman Bloomquist that this committee study the passibility of installing pedestrian cross lights at the two busy intersections in the downtown area. Carried. End of committee reports. The Mayor appointed Mr. L.J. Glinski a permanent member of the Zoning - Board of Appeals committee. On roll call, Carried. A letter was read regarding a low offer for the Vocational School (old) Building which was rejected bythe Public Property Committee. A motion was made by Alderman Bohne and seconded by .Alderman Rosenkranz, to uphold the dec- ision of the Public Property committee and turn down the :low bid. Carried. The following bills. were presented for payment: City $9,730.17 (Voucher No. 1995-2075), Ambulance $596.95 (Voucher No. 2076-2085), Recreation $1,087.77 (Voucher No. 2086-2103), Logging Museum $1,287.04 (Voucher 2104-2129) and Water Department, $13,963.22.
