David Butler Appointed Mayor of Leesburg
Leesburg, VA (February 9, 2016) – At a special meeting
prior to the regular work session on Monday, February 8,
2016, the Leesburg Town Council appointed Council
Member David S. Butler as Mayor, filling the mayoral
vacancy created when former Mayor Kristen Umstattd
was elected to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
Mayor Butler will serve the remainder of the term which
expires on December 31, 2016.
David S. Butler was first elected to the Leesburg Town
Council in November 2008. He was reelected in 2012 and
served as Vice Mayor from January 2013 to January
2015. Prior to his election to Town Council, Mayor Butler
was a member of the Leesburg Planning Commission, the
Utility Rate Advisory Committee and the Standing
Residential Traffic Committee. He chaired the SE/SW
Trails Committee in 2006.
Mayor Butler holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson
University and a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Syracuse
University. Originally from Oswego, New York, he and his family moved to Leesburg in 2002.
