ORDINANCE NO. .S d3
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD PROHIBITING
SMOKING IN CERTAIN PLACES AND PROVIDING A -
PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF.
The City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby ordain as follows:
Section 1: It shall be unlawful for any person to
smoke any cigar, pipe, or cigarette, or to smoke or burn tobacco
1n any form in any theater, moving picture theater, or in any
other place where signs containing the words "NO SMOKING" have
been posted pursuant to an order of the Chief of the Fire Depart-
ment, made as provided herein. The Chief of the. Fire Department
shall order such signs to be erected in any place of public
assemblage where in his opinion smoking would constitute a menace
to life or property. This section shall not be deemed to make it
unlawful for a performer to smoke upon the stage during and as
a part of any theatrical production, or for any person to smoke
in smoking rooms designated as such and approved by the Chief of
the Fire Department.
Section 2: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation owning, managing or controlling any theater, or any
other place of public assemblage where smoking is prohibited by
Section 1 of this ordinance to allow or permit such smoking.
Section 3: Any person violating any of the provisions
of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon
conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine of not to exceed
five hundred dollars ($j00.00) or imprisonment in the Gity Jail of
the City of Lynwood or the County Jail of Loa Angeles County, Mate
of California, for a period of time not to exceed six months, or
by both such fine and imprisonment.
Each such person shall be deemed guilty of a separate
offense for every day during any portion of which violation of any
provision of this ordinance is committed, continued, or permitted
by such person, and shall be punishable therefor as provided by
this ordinance.

Section ~: The City Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be pub-
lished once in the Lynwood Press, a newspaper of general circu-
lation, published and circulated in said City of Lynwood.
First read at a regular meeting of the City Council
of said City held on the 3rd day of April, 1951, and finally
adopted and ordered published at a'regular meeting of said
Council held on the 17th day of April 1951, by the following
vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEN Bruner, Daetweiler, Sneddon,
Stroh and ~^lillard.
