AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 (GENERAL PROVISIONS) OF THE CODE
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, BY INCREASING MINIMUM PENAL TIES
FOR FINES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON , MISSOURI , AS
FOLLOWS :
Section 1. Chapter 1 (General Provisions) Sec. 1-13 (General penalty;
continuing violations) is amended as follows :
Sec. 1-13. General pen a lty; continuing violations.
A. Except as hereinafter pro vid ed, whenever in thi s Co de or in a ny oth er ord in a nc e of the c ity o r in any rul e,
regulation or order promulgat ed pursuant to such Co de or other ordin ance of the city , a ny act is pro h ib ited
o r is made or declared to be unl awfu l or an offe nse or a mi sdemeanor, or wheneve r in suc h Co de or in s uch
other city o rdin ance, rule, reg ul at ion or orde r th e do in g of an y act is req uired or th e fai lure to do any act is
dec lared to be unl awful , where no spec ifi c pe nalty is provided therefo r, th e v io lat ion of any suc h provision
of thi s Code or of any other ordin ance of th e city or of any rul e, regulation or order promu lgated pursuant
to such Code or other city ordin ance shall be pun ished by a tine not exceeding five hundred dollars
($50 0.00), or by imprisonment for a period of not exceed in g three (3) months, or by bot h suc h fin e and
im prisonment.

of th e c ity to puni sh the viol ation of any part icu lar pro vis ion of th is Code or ot her city ord in ance or rul e,
re g ul ati on or order promul gated purs ua nt th ere to to a fin e of less amo unt th an that prov ided in th is section
or impri sonm e nt for a shorter term than th at prov id ed in thi s sec t ion , th e vio lat ion o f suc h part icu lar
provis ion of thi s Code or ot her city ordin ance , rul e, reg ul at ion or ord er shall be pu n ish ed by th e im pos iti on
of not mo re th an th e ma ximum fi ne or impri so nm ent so aut hor ized , or by bot h s uch fine and imp riso n ment.
C. Wh eneve r any pro vis ion of th e Rev ise d Stat ut es of Mi ssouri or oth er statut e of th e state estab lishes a
pena lty differing from th a t provided by thi s sec tion , for an offense s imi lar to any offense esta bl is hed by thi s
Code or other ordinance , rul e , regu lation or order of th e city , the v iolati on of s uch city law , ordinance, rul e,
regu lation or order sha ll be puni shed by the tine or imprison ment established for s uch s imil ar offense by
such state law.
D. Eac h day any violatio n of thi s Co de, or a ny oth er city ord in anc e or rul e, regulation or ord er promulgated
purs uant thereto, cont inu es shall constitute a separate offense , unl ess otherw is e prov ided.
E. Violations of the follo w in g li sted and des cribed sec tio ns of thi s Code sha ll be punis hable a s provided in this
s ec tion , except that any fi ne impo s ed fo r sa id violat ions sha ll no t be less th an the amo unt prescribed for
eac h viola ti on in the following li s t:
