HomeMy Public PortalAbout2020-09-081 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING, SEPTEMBER 8, 2020 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Carrie Tergin called the September 8, 2020 City Council meeting to order at 6:01 P.M. ROLL CALL The f ollowing Councilmembers were present for roll-call: Present: Fitzwater, Graham, Hensley, Hussey*, Lester, Schreiber, Vogt, Ward, and Wiseman Absent: Kemna A quorum was declared present. *Councilmember Hussey participated via call-in. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA A motion was made by Councilmember W ard and seconded by Councilmember Schreiber to adopt the agenda. There being no objection, the motion to adopt the agenda was approved unanimously. MISCELLANEOUS AGENDA ITEMS Detective Jason Ambler introduced Police Officer Jeremy Bowman as the FOP Police Officer of the Year. The Mayor presented Officer Bowman with a City coin and thanked him for his service. PUBLIC HEARINGS There were no public hearings at this time. ANNOUNCEMENTS BY MAYOR, COUNCIL, AND STAFF  Sonny Sanders, Director of Planning and Protective Services announced the virtual Fair Housing and Diversity Workshop scheduled for Monday, September 14th from 1:00 P.M. – 4:30 P.M. Registration information can be found on the City’s on-line calendar.  Councilmember Hussey announced the next Public Works and Planning Committee meeting scheduled for Thursday, September 10th at City Hall. Citizens can also participate via WebEx. The WebEx information can be found on the City’s on-line calendar.  Mayor Tergin reminded citizens to complete their census at www.2020census.gov/ if they haven’t already done so.  Mayor Tergin announced the following events:  The Dunklin Street Bridge Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held on September 2, 2020.  The Old Munichberg Association’s Oktoberfest “Lite” will be held September 26th, from 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. This will be a scaled back event compared to previous years due to COVID-19 precautions being taken at this time.  The buried prison cells at MSP have recently been unveiled and will be a part of the MSP tours. The cells date back to the 1840’s.  The Redemption Inside the Walls concert featuring Michael W. Smith is scheduled for September 19th at the Cole County Fairgrounds. Tickets are still available.  Mayor Tergin reminded citizens to take precautions to help prevent further spread. LINCOLN UNIVERSITY STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE UPDATE There were no updates at this time. Mayor Tergin and Councilmembers informed him that at this time there has not been a request made to bring the topic to City Council. The Historic Preservation Commission and Human Relations Commission have both discussed the topic at their recent meetings. COUNCIL AND STAFF DISCUSSION OF PRESENTATION TOPICS There was no discussion at this time. NEW BUSINESS There was no new business at this time. CLOSED SESSION Mayor Tergin stated that, pursuant to Sec. 610.021 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, she would entertain a motion to go into Closed Session to discuss the following: 1) Real Estate.
