R. Bruce Gemmill Appointed to Leesburg Town Council
Leesburg, VA (February 23, 2016) – The Leesburg Town
Council appointed R. Bruce Gemmill to fill the council
seat vacated by Mayor David S. Butler upon his
appointment as mayor. Council Member Gemmill’s term
expires on December 31, 2016.
“I am flattered to have been chosen to fill the vacant
Council seat,” Council Member Gemmill said, following
his appointment. “Over the next ten months, if the best
thing said about my temporary position on the Council is
‘Bruce brought civility back to public discourse, respect
towards those with competing interests, and
improvement to the process of getting things done,’
then I will feel my time has been well spent.”
“And by ‘getting things done,’ I mean that which will
improve the business climate in Leesburg and the quality of life for its residents,” he added.
Council Member Gemmill has over 35 years of sales, marketing, public relations and business
development experience. He is currently the Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer for
John Marshall Bank. Previously, he was the owner of Campbell Communications, an advertising
and public relations agency.
Prior to his appointment to the Leesburg Town Council, Council Member Gemmill served as the
Loudoun County Board of Supervisors representative to the Leesburg Airport Commission, on
the Leesburg Commission for the Public Arts, and on the Leesburg Economic Development
Commission’s Performing Arts Center Task Force. He presently serves on the boards for Visit
Loudoun and the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and is a past board member for the
Fairfax County and Dulles Regional chambers of commerce.
Council Member Gemmill holds a graduate certificate in Public Relations from the Kogod School
of Business at American University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion
University in Norfolk, Virginia. A native of Washington, DC, Council Member Gemmill and his
family have lived in Leesburg since 2005.
