A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION OF THE
TOWN OF GULF STREAM, PALM BEACH COUNTY,
FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE DEPARTNENT OF TRANS-
PORTATION OF THE. STATE OF FLORIDA TO EXPE-
DITE THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROPOSED BRIDGE
OVER THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY ON SOUTHEAST
TWELFTH STREET IN DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, the residents of the City of Delray Beach,
Florida, living East of the Intracoastal waterway and all
residents of the Town of Highland Beach must cross the In-
tracoastal Waterway for most of their shopping and other
services, and
WHEREAS, there are only two bridges over the Water-
way between Boynton Beach, Florida, and Boca Raton, Florida,
one being at Atlantic Avenue and one being one mile north
thereof at Northeast Eighth Street, and
WHEREAS, the present two bridges are not adequate
for the present traffic using the same and will be less ad-
equate as the population of this area increases, and
WHEREAS, a mechanical failure in the Atlantic Avenue
Bridge could seriously delay emergency vehicles in reaching
the south beach area:
NOW, THEREFORE, nE IT RESOLVED that the Department
of Transportation of the State of Florida be requested to
take the necessary steps to expedite the construction of
the planned Twelfth Street Bridge in Delray Beach, Florida,
to facilitate movement of traffic and enhance the public
safety of the residents in this general area.

PETITION FOR A SPECIAL EXCEPTION
TO THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF GULFSTREAM,
as per SECTION IX
1. The undersigned Petitioners are (a) the present Owner
(b) the prospective Purchaser
and abutting property owner
(c) the Owners of property
immediately adjacent to, and
across the street
from the tract of land described in Exhibit A in the former Polo
Field Stable Area abutting the Gulf Stream School to the North, as
mapped and legally described on Exhibit A, which are surveys prepared
by O'Brien, Suiter & O'Brien, licensed surveyors.
2. PERMISSIVE USE is requested for these tracts in order to provide
for much - needed playground area for the school and an area in which
to construct a classroom building and a meeting hall. Any structures
placed on the property would be similar in character to existing
buildings located on school property, and would be placed on the
western parcel and possibly on the southern portion of the eastern
parcel. Any assembly hall constructed on said property would be
available for the use of the Town of Gulfstream, Florida, upon
request, when not being used for school purposes. Approval will
alleviate crowded classroom conditions, provide a play area which
will be further removed from residences adjoining the shcool
property, and provide a long- needed assembly hall for the school.
3. NO CHANGE in the existing zoning classification is required or
requested at this time.

Tallrhassee, Florida dated 10 November 1972 has been
received by the Commander, Seventh Coast Guard District
for approval of location and plans of a highway bridge
over a navigable waterway as follows:
LOCATION AND WATERWAY: SOUTH LAKE WORTH INLET, mile 0.0,
State Road A -1 -A (Ocean Blvd), near Boynton Beach, Palm
Beach County, Florida.
CHARACTER OF WORK: Construct a fixed bridge approximately
132 feet in length. The proposed bridge will provide a
vertical clearance of 18.29 feet above mean high water and
21.09 feet above mean low water with a horizontal clearance
of 127 feet.
The existing bridge at the site shall be removed from the
waterway.
The decision as to whether or not approval of the location
and plans for the proposed bridge will be granted must rest
upon the effect of the bridge on navigation and environment.
Factors such as wildlife and waterfowl, public parks and
historic sites will be made part of the record and will be
considered in determining whether or not it would be in the
best public interest to grant approval.
Interested parties are requested to express their views, in
writing, upon the suitability of the location, adequacy of
navigational clearances and the effect the project may have
on the environment, giving sufficient detail to establish
a clear understanding of reasons for support or opposition.
Protests or comments will be received through 28 December

Dear Sir:
P,eference is made tr the application submitted to
the U. S. Coast Guard, by the Florida Department of Trans-
portation, seeking approval of location and plans for a
highway bridge over the Boynton Inlet.
A news item reflects the intent of the DOT to not
only remove the existing bridge but also the bulkhead that
juts out into the Inlet.
The Town Commission for the Town of Gulf Stream
does not necessarily protest the proposed NEW Bridge nor
the removal of the existing bulkhead, but desires to be
informed if NEW Bulkheads are being planned. If so, has
sufficient study been made to assure those responsible for
consideration of such changes, that same might not be de-
trimental to the local environment and beaches to the South
thereof, particularly through Ocean Ridge, Briny Breezes,
Gulf Stream and Delray Beach.
Your early comments relative thereto, as well as
any available additional information pertaining to the ap-
plication of DOT, will be greatly appreciated.

Attached copies of form communication relative to bridge
replacer:ent and bulkhead changes at Boynton Inlet, together
with copy of engineering layout.
Over the phone I was told the distance between present and
proposed bulkheads would expand from 108, to 127' or a 191
increase water channel.
the plan as I read it, will widen this distance
'LL,vr_ n present and proposed bulkheads about 301.
."hat this will or wont do to our rate of beach erosion is
beyond me. I cant see where it will retard it either.
The instructions are clear if you wish to take a position
in the matter.
There is one important point:- the inlet was originally
intended for navagational purposes,- this expensive change
is solely for the benefit of navagation.
