Leesburg Town Council Adopts Fiscal Year 2017 Budget, Sets
Real Estate Tax Rate at 18.6¢
Leesburg, VA (April 14, 2016) – On Monday, April 11, 2016, the Leesburg Town Council adopted
the real estate property tax rate for Fiscal Year 2017. The Council approved the equalized
residential real estate property tax rate of 18.6¢ per $100 of assessed value, up from 18.3¢ in
2015. The residential equalized rate is the rate at which the Town will receive the same amount
of real estate revenue as the previous year, based on current residential real estate
assessments. On average, residential real estate assessments in Leesburg declined slightly in
2016.
The Fiscal Year 2017 Budget and the revised Fiscal Year 2016-2021 Capital Improvements
Program was adopted by Council at their Tuesday, April 12, 2016 regular meeting. The
adopted Fiscal Year 2017 Budget totals $94.2 million, a 3.5% decrease from the Fiscal Year 2016
Budget. The budget contains a new Network Administrator position in the Information
Technology office; which is the first new, budgeted full-time staff position added to the General
Fund since Fiscal Year 2009. Other enhancements include $60,000 for downtown initiatives, in-
car and body cameras for the Police Department, and building improvements to Town Hall.
The revised Fiscal Year 2016-2021 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) includes 37 projects,
totaling $106.5 million over the six years of the program. Key projects include the last segment
of Battlefield Parkway from South King Street to the Dulles Greenway, design of the Battlefield
Parkway/East Market Street interchange, design of the Route 15 Bypass/Edwards Ferry Road
interchange, the Catoctin Skate Park, Tuscarora Creek flood mitigation, and the Chesapeake Bay
TMDL (storm water management) Project.
The newly-adopted Fiscal Year 2017 Budget and the Fiscal Year 2016-2021 Capital
Improvements Program will be available for download from the Town’s website at
