Re: Barbed wire & fences
When the new Criminal Code was adopted last spring, the former city code provision
barring barbed wire fences was dropped deliberately, because it would be dealt with in
the draft zoning ordinance that was not far behind; the zoning ordinance would also have
reached the impact area, and thus was of wider reach than the criminal code.
However, as we now know, the draft zoning ordinance did not follow close behind. We
presently do not see it as being on the books before mid -fall.
In the meantime, fences continue to be built. I have written an ordinance that would put
barbed wire back into the City Criminal Code, using the words that are in the draft
zoning ordinance to avoid inconsistency. Thus we can maintain the City's policy
position for however long it takes to get the new zoning ordinance.
