Ashby’s Gap Turnpike Exhibit on Display at Thomas Balch
Library
Leesburg, VA (December 8, 2021) – A new exhibit from
Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Association, “Ashby’s Gap
Turnpike: A Journey through History,” is available for
viewing at Thomas Balch Library.
Located in the heart of the Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area,
the former Ashby’s Gap Turnpike has carried people and
goods across northern Virginia for centuries. From its
beginnings as a Native American trail to modern day US
Route 50, this route has been used by settlers, enslaved
people, soldiers, tourists, and commuters. Thanks to the
efforts of Virginia Piedmont Heritage Area Association, our
preservation partners, and the local community, travelers
along this historic road can continue to enjoy the historic landscape as they journey back
through our past.
The exhibit is available to view during the months of December and January. Please see library
website for current library hours.
The library is closed for lunch from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please
call 703-737-7195 or email balchlib@leesburgva.gov for more information.
Please note: The library will be closed Thursday, December 23 through Monday, December 27
and Friday, December 31 through Sunday, January 2.
