Town of Leesburg Receives Trail Access Grant
The money will help aid the Potomac Crossing Trailhead project, which is
expected to be completed in fall 2022.
Leesburg, VA (December 9, 2021) – The Town of Leesburg has received a Trail Access Grant, in
the amount of $23,000, which will be used towards the Potomac Crossing Trailhead project.
The Virginia Department of Conservation awarded the 100% reimbursement grant to four
localities for accessible trail projects, providing trail access for people with disabilities.
The grant will be used towards building a new trail from the parking lot to provide a firm and
stable crushed stone surface to meet ADA standards. It will connect the existing pedestrian trail
to the trailhead. An ADA compliant cement route will be installed to complete a connection to
the porta-john.
The grant will also help cover costs associated with the design, materials and installation of a
trailhead sign that meets the visual, height, informational and technical requirements for
accessibility. The existing dog waste station will be replaced to meet compliancy and relocated
to the sign area.
Meetings and design work, regarding this project, is currently underway. Work is expected to
be complete by fall of 2022.
