HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2016-04-26 Water Main Flushing Program Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Media Contact: Betsy Arnett, Public Information Officer barnett@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2734 Leesburg Utilities Department to Conduct Water Main Flushing Program, Starting Monday, May 2, 2016 Leesburg, VA (April 27, 2016) – Beginning on Monday, May 2, 2016, and running through June 17, 2016, the Leesburg’s Utilities Department will conduct controlled flushing of water mains throughout the Town. The annual water main flushing program is an essential part of the Town’s ongoing preventative maintenance of the water distribution system. Town crews will open select fire hydrants and allow them to flow freely for a short period of time. The flushing cleans out any accumulated sediment, removes air pockets from the water mains and restores chlorine levels, particularly in areas of limited use. Water is safe to drink and safe to use during flushing operations. Most customers will not notice any change in their water service while the flushing takes place. Some customers may experience lower water pressure, but there will be no interruptions in service. Flushing may result in some temporary discoloration of the water. If water is discolored, the Town recommends residents avoid doing laundry until the discoloration subsides. In addition, flushing may introduce air into the water, temporarily causing erratic water flow. For more information about the water main flushing program, please call the Utilities Department at 703-737-7075. For after-hours utility emergencies, please call the Leesburg Police Department at 703-771-4500. # # #
