HomeMy Public PortalAbout2019-12-04 minutesMinutes City of Jefferson Parks and Recreation Commission Oak Hills Advisory Committee Work Session December 4, 2019 Call to Order Committee Co-chair Stu Murphy called the meeting to order at Noon in the Oak Hills Clubhouse, 932 Ellis Boulevard. Attendance Committee members present were Committee Co-chair Stu Murphy, Bill Case, Mike Roling, Leo Ahlers, Steve Garrison, and Russell Rottmann. Commissioners Stu Murphy and Karen Brickey were present. Staff present included JJ Gates, Amy Shaw, Tina Werner, Rena Barron, Stephanie Bruemmer, and Todd Spalding. Financial Report – End of FY 19 Financial Report (Pre-Audit) and FY 20 Budget JJ Gates stated that the financial report was included in the meeting packet. He stated it was a 4-year comparison showing how the golf course faired compared to previous years. Gates stated that in FY 19 staff budgeted to recover 61% of direct cost and we were right upon that at 60.48%. He stated that during FY 20, staff has set the goal to recover 79% of the direct cost. Programming and Tournament Update/Program Surveys Stephanie Bruemmer stated that program surveys were emailed to everyone in the golf course database. Copies of the surveys were included in the meeting packet. Bruemmer reported that 39 tournaments were held this year, which is more than in previous years. She also reported that all lesson programs went well for the year and many good comments were received. Course/Maintenance Update JJ Gates reported that the report was included in the meeting packet. He stated that the staff is doing a great job and providing quality maintenance. Upcoming work at the course includes tree trimming and tree removals along with work planned in the bunkers. Gates also reported that the pipeline work has been delayed till the first of the year due to a new contractor being assigned to the project. Fee adjustments JJ Gates presented the fee adjustments proposed by staff. He stated that staff proposes a $1 increase on green fees, a $1 increase on cart rentals, and a $.25 increase on all driving range ball options. A $25 increase on season golf passes for adults and seniors was also recommended. Staff also proposes an increase on the tournament rate for 2021 from $28.50 per round to $30 per round. Following discussion regarding the fee adjustments, Committee member Murphy made a motion that the fee adjustments be approved as presented. Committee member Steve Garrison seconded the motion. The motion passed with all voting in favor. Golfer/Public Feedback Committee members stated they continue to hear that the golf course is in great shape and asked that JJ Gates share their appreciation with Bryan Braun and his staff on their work. Other Business Stephanie Bruemmer stated that she is looking to relocate the foot golf program to another park. She stated she has received complaints regarding the closure of part of the course, and Bruemmer stated that the turnout was not as expected. She reported she doesn’t know where we could relocate the program to at this time, but staff will continue to monitor and make considerations for improvements. Adjournment With no other business to discuss, the meeting adjourned at 12:25 p.m. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 1, 2020.
