HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2016-05-17 Memorial Day Observance Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Media Contact: Betsy Arnett, Public Information Officer barnett@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2734 Leesburg to Celebrate Memorial Day with Observance at Loudoun County Courthouse on Monday, May 30, 2016 Leesburg, VA (May 17, 2016) – The Town of Leesburg will hold its annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 30, 2016, on the lawn of the Loudoun County Courthouse in downtown Leesburg, beginning at 10:00am. Veterans, active duty military, their families and members of the public are invited to join in this tribute which will feature patriotic music and a traditional rifle salute. This year’s featured speaker is Lieutenant General John A. Dubia, U.S. Army (Retired). General Dubia served fourteen years of troop assignments and later, as commanding General of the United States Army Field Artillery Center and Commandant of the Field Artillery School. General Dubia currently resides in Leesburg, Virginia, and continues to support veterans. He serves on the boards of the Fisher House Foundation based in Rockville, Maryland, and the Boulder Crest Retreat in Bluemont, Virginia. Following General Dubia’s remarks, wreaths will be laid at each of the war memorials in honor of all soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who served in the defense of our country, in all conflicts. Ceremony participants include Leesburg VFW Post #1177, the Ketoctin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of Confederate Veterans, S ons of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy, Loudoun Chapter #170, and several Boy and Girl Scout Troops. Market Street, from Church to Wirt Streets, and King Street, from Loudoun to North Streets, will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 9:30am until the end of the ceremony at approximately 11:30am. Event guests should park in the Leesburg Town Hall Parking Garage, accessible from Loudoun Street. On-street parking within the street closure area will be available for ceremony attendees with special needs. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the L oudoun County Senior Center (102 North Street NW).
