The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on October 16, 2013 at
8:00 a.m. at the locations noted below in Medina, MN.
I. Call to Order
Members present: Anderson, Martin, Pederson, Weir
Members absent: Martinson
Also present: City Administrator Scott Johnson, Public Works Director Steve
Scherer, City Planner Dusty Finke, and Police Chief Ed Belland.
II. 2013 Fall Business Tours
Highway 55 Rental — 225 Minnesota Highway 55 — City Council and staff met with
Reg Pederson at the business site. The business began operation in Medina on April 29,
1979. Mr. Pederson provided a tour and information on his business to the City Council.
He also discussed his concerns with timing for the stop light on the frontage road at
Highway 55. Highway 55 has requested installation of a blinking yellow light left turn,
but MNDOT has not agreed to this improvement. City staff will put together a letter to
MNDOT requesting this upgrade.
Go 2 Print Media Group — 62 Hamel Drive - City Council and staff met with Tom
Therrien and his staff. Mr. Therrien provided information on his plans to update the sign
on the front of the building, his possible future expansion plans for the back of his
property, and rebuilding the sidewalk at the front of the building. The group also
discussed the possibility of the Economic Development Authority setting up revolving
loans for facade projects.
West Financial — 3575 Sioux Drive — City Council and staff met with Renee Schuyler,
Bill Schuyler, and Kraig Blahoski. West Financial is a state chartered credit union and
they have been in their current location for five years. They specialize in mortgage,
vehicle, and small business loans. A tour was provided to the City Council and staff of
the office.
III. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
