JJ + No. 05-96 Date of Adoption March 10. 2005 A RESOLUTION OBJECTING TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S CUTS TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS WHEREAS, the United States government has consistently funded Community Development Block Grants through the U.S. Department of Commerce, Housing and Urban Development, which have been used by the Borough of Carteret to improve housing conditions for low-income households, create and provide necessary services for the disabled and low-income individuals and attend to many of the needs of the municipality's underserved population; and WHEREAS, many municipalities and counties throughout not only the State of New Jersey but also across the country have come to depend and rely upon these funds in order to meet the needs of these individuals; and WHEREAS, in President Bush's proposed 2006 budget, he proposes (0 significantly cut funding for these grants; and WHEREAS, any cut in funding for these grants will severely and permanently detrimentally impact the Borough's ability to assist those individuals who most desperately need such help; NOW THEREFORE BE'IT RESOLVED on this 10th day of March, 2005, by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, that: 1. The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret urge President Bush to reconsider the proposed cuts to the federal government's funding of Community Development Block Grants in the 2006 budget, and restore the level of funding to at least the 2005 funding levels. 2. The Mayor and Council strenuously urge Carteret's elected federal representatives to opposed cuts to Community Development Block Grant funds and actively seek to have the funding levels restored to at least the 2005 levels. 3. The Mayor and Council urge all citizens in Carteret to contact their federal congressional representatives. 4. A certified copy of this resolution be served upon President George W. Bush, Senator Frank Lautenberg, Senator Jon Corzine and Representative Robert Menendez. Adopted this 10th day of March, 2005 and certified as a true copy of the original on March 11,2005. KATHLEENM.
