“An American Story” Heritage Bus Tour Illuminates Historic
African-American Communities and Their Contributions to
Loudoun County
Space is limited! Registration deadline is June 10, 2016.
Leesburg, VA (May 31, 2016) – The Black History Committee of the Friends of the Thomas Blach
Library is reprising their successful “An American Story: Historical African-American
Communities and Contributions” heritage bus tour of Loudoun County on Saturday, June 25,
2016.
The tour will begin at the Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg at 9:00am, and will visit the
communities of Leesburg, Waterford, Purcellville and Gleedsville as well as Oatlands Plantation.
Tour participants will learn about the powerful citizens who came out of enslavement to build
prosperous communities throughout Loudoun County. Led by Certified Tourism Ambassador
(CTA) Alicia Cohen, volunteer intrepreters will provide historic and personal narratives about
the communities and their place in Loudoun County history. The tour will conclude at the
Thomas Balch Library at approximately 4:30pm.
Cost is $75 per person, which includes a box lunch. To register and for more information, please
