Town of Gulf Stream
Proclaiming May 10 — May 16, 2009
"WATER REUSE WEEK"
WHEREAS, safe, clean, and sustainable water resources are essential to Florida's
environment, economy, citizens and visitors; and
WHEREAS, Florida's water supplies are finite, while our population and our need for
water resources continues to increase; and
WHEREAS, water reuse provides a means for conserving and augmenting Florida's
precious water resources; and
WHEREAS, Florida has established the encouragement and promotion of water reuse
as state objectives in Chapters 373 and 403, Florida Statutes; and
WHEREAS, Florida's permitted reuse capacity exceeds 1.4 billion gallons per day (over
58 percent of Florida's total permitted capacity for all domestic wastewater treatment
facilities); and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida has declared the Week of May 10 — 16, 2009 to be
Water Reuse Week in Florida; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream has joined with the State of Florida, the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection, and the South Florida Water Management
District in encouraging and promoting water reuse and conservation; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream has implemented a water reuse program and
encourages efficient and effective use of reclaimed water; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream is calling upon each citizen and business to help
protect our precious resource by practicing water conservation and to use reclaimed
water in an efficient and effective means.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor
of the Town of Gulf Stream, I do hereby proclaim the Week of May 10 — 16, 2009 as
Water Reuse Week
