Proclaiming THE HONORABLE MARK FOLEY as an
HONORARY CITIZEN
of the Town of Gulf Stream, Florida, for his outstanding service in helping to
preserve for future generations the Town's scenic and historic
Australian Pine Canopy over State Road AlA.
WHEREAS, Australian pine trees have graced the State Road AIA roadside in the
Town of Gulf Stream for the last 70 years and the majestic canopy has become the Town's
signature; and
WHEREAS, the Florida legislature recognized the historical significance of the
canopy and designated all of State Road AIA in the Town of Gulf Stream as a State Scenic
and Historic Highway; and
WHEREAS, many of the original Australian pine trees have been lost or are near the
end of their life span, and
WHEREAS, the Town and its residents desperately want to preserve this extraordinary
scenic resource for generations to come by planting new Australian pines; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Foley worked valiantly to secure state approval to replant
the trees and preserve the canopy; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Gulf Stream wishes to express its sincere gratitude to
Congressman Foley for his triumphant efforts on the Town's behalf:
NOW THEREFORE, 1, William F. Koch, Jr., Mayor of the Town of Gulf Stream,
Palm Beach County, Florida, do hereby proclaim the Honorable Mark Foley to be an
Honorary Citizen of the Town of Gulf Stream for his outstanding service in helping to
preserve for future generations the Town's scenic and historic Australian Pine Canopy over
State Road AIA.
