As discussed at the recent Council Retreat, the next exhibit will feature photo images of Bal Harbour Village recently taken as part of our tourism efforts in producing video segments and additional photography of the Village. The exhibit is titled: Somewhere in Bal Harbour. The exhibit includes nearly 100 photographs of the Village and will be used as a filler in between other curated exhibits displayed on the beach path in the future. Given that there are so many images, each time the exhibit is displayed, different photographs can be used. Attached is a photo deck of the exhibit which will go up in the coming days. Also attached is an additional photo deck of additional photos that will be used as part of future Somewhere in Bal Harbour exhibitions. This exhibition presents a curated collection of photographs by local photographer Leo Diaz, who is known for his exploration of the use of space and search for meaning in architecture. He shoots the world as it is, often from unexpected points of view. Much of his work explores the juxtaposition between structure and emptiness, capturing the sublimity of negative space. Minutes beyond the hurried rush of South Beach, Bal Harbour Village is an intimate, seaside refuge-a poetic place of deep emotion amidst towering palms, thickets of tropical fauna, sandy white beaches and breathtaking architecture. Somewhere explores our sense of place through a photographic dialogue that heightens our awareness of the way we perceive the world around us. Architectural elements reveal themselves through kaleidoscopic forms. A tropical design dialogue, Somewhere gives viewers a new perspective into a treasured coastal community that is achingly alive and filled with all sorts of hidden beauty to di.scover. However, the planning committee didn’t think that was appropriate for a city that was on the beach. A name was invented to encompass a city that ran from the bay to the Atlantic Ocean. The “b” was taken from the word bay and the “a” and “l” were taken from the word Atlantic. Hence the word Bal was created.
