Dear Mayor:
October has been designated by President Bush as Breast
Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society has
been a leader in the community by educating women about this
disease and the increased chances of survival through early
detection and mammography. We hope you will join us in
promoting October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Enclosed is a sample proclamation that you can use to
publicize this lifesaving message to your citizens.
The American Cancer Society in Palm Beach, Martin, St.
Lucie, Okeechobee and Indian River counties is offering a
coordinated high quality, reduced rate mammography screening
project. Our primary sponsor, WPEC TV 12, will kickoff "A
Ray of Hope" promoting Breast Cancer Awareness month
officially on September 30th. During October 1 -4, WPEC TV
12 will be running features on Breast Cancer and promote the
following hotline number: 1/800/244 -5635.
Women will be able to call the American Cancer Society
hotline to be screened for eligibility and receive a list
of participating centers and a voucher entitling them to a
$55.00 mammogram.
We offer this screening as a public service. We urge you to
inform and encourage the women in your jurisdiction to take
advantage of this project.
