AHR, M.D. Medical Director November 6, 1990 THE HONORABLE WILLIAM F KOCH JR TOWN OF GULF STREAM 246 SEA RD GULF STREAM FL 33444 Dear Mayor Koch: BOARD OF DIRECTORS DOUGLAS G. JOHANSEN, Chairman THOMAS L. THORNTON, Vice Chairman J. LAWRENCE SARTORY, Secretary/Treasurer DAVID J. AHfl, M.O., Member CARL L. BRUMBACK, M.D., Member EDWARD E. DALVA, Member HERBERT C. GIBSON, Member MADISON F. PACETTI, Member V.M. JOHNSON, M.D., Emeritus President Bush has proclaimed January as National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. Each year at this time, blood supplies throughout the country significantly drop. Our area is no exception; South Florida's winter season brings an increase in blood usage while donations drop throughout Palm Beach, Martin, Hendry, Okeechobee and Glades counties. During the course of 1991, the Blood Bank will provide over 70,000 pints of blood to meet the increasing demands of the 17 hospitals it serves. As a private, non - profit community organization, the Blood Bank has provided for the needs of South Florida since 1948. Volunteer donors are the only source of the blood used to fulfill the requirements of area hospital patients. It would be greatly appreciated if your city would join President Bush in issuing a proclamation in support of National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. The blood donor month theme for 1991 is "We Are Counting On You to Care. Give Blood." Donating blood is quite easy and takes about 30 minutes all together. Donors must be in good health and weigh 100 pounds or more. Senior citizens are encouraged to donate blood as long as they are in good health.
