Each year at this time, blood supplies Member J. LAWRENCE SARTORY throughout the country significantly drop. Our area is no Member exception; South Florida's winter season brings an increase V.M. JOHNSON, M.D. In blood usage while donations drop throughout Palm Beach, Emeritus Martin, Hendry, Okeechobee and Glades counties. During the course of 1992, the Blood Bank will provide over 80,000 pints of blood to meet the increasing demands of the 15 hospitals it serves. As a private, non — profit community organization, the Blood Bank has provided for the needs of South Florida since 1948. Volunteer donors are the only source of the blood used to fulfill the requirements of area hospital patients. It would be greatly appreciated if your city would join President Bush in issuing a proclamation in support of National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. The blood donor month theme for 1992 is "Blood. Give a little so someone can live." Donating blood is quite easy and only takes about 30 minutes all together. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh 100 pounds or more and be in good general health. There is no upper age limit and senior citizens are encouraged to donate regularly. JOHN H. As the eight million Americans who volunteer annually well know, giving blood is a safe, simple process that fills us with warmth as it fills others with life. I am pleased to join with the dedicated staff and volunteers of the American Association of Blood Banks, the American Red Cross, and the Council of Community Blood Centers in celebrating National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. We salute all of those generous individuals who have helped to maintain a safe and adequate blood supply for the United States, and we encourage those who have given blood in the past to continue to donate regularly. We also invite other healthy men and women to join in this noble effort. Giving blood is safe and easy, and most eligible volunteers can donate as frequently as every eight weeks. Thank you for your generosity, and God bless you. e /3,7,4,
