September 8, 1992 Dear Palm Beach County communities: Child Care Resource & Referral, Inc. was recently selected to participate in a $10 million, seven year campaign to upgrade the quality of child care in communities nationwide. The program, Child Care Aware, is funded by Target Stores and the Dayton Hudson Foundation. Phase one was kicked off July 12, 1992 and will be waged through December. We were the only organization in Florida chosen to carry out the campaign. It is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the 60,000 pre - school age children in Palm Beach County. As you may know, our programs help parents locate legally operating, quality child care, and enable them to make appropriate decisions for the well -being of their children. We train child care providers, help people become licensed family child care providers in their own homes, and we have 400 children in subsidized child care in family child care homes. Over 85 corporations contract with us to provide enhanced child care referral services or parenting training to their employees. We have received a proclamation from the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County which identifies the period July 1992 through December 1992 the official Child Care Aware Campaign of Palm Beach County. We would be most grateful if we were to receive some commensurate form of recognition for the campaign from your office. Please help us to encourage others to come together to agree with us that those precious first years of life are truly the stepping -stone to individual futures, and our collective future as a society. Additional quantities of the enclosed brochure may be ordered; please let me know if you would like to do so. We need you. The message about the importance of quality child care is an important one, but one which may have paled in comparison to issues surrounding health care and other crises. Too many parents in Palm Beach County are poor consumers of child care. And, far more people think that the issues of child care don't concern them if they do not have pre - school age children. The fact it Child Care Resource & Referral, Inc. And all citizens pay for deep -end costs which are associated with poor quality, or non - existent, child care. Child Care Resource & Referral, Inc. is funded by Palm Beach County, Children's Services Council of Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties, HRS, the Florida Children's Forum, corporate contracts and private donations. Child Care Resource & Referral, Inc. is a non - profit organization which works to enhance the provision of child care in Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties. We have been serving families, child care providers and corporations in Palm Beach County since 1984. Thank you for the many ways you show that you care about the lives of children and families in our community. I look forward to hearing from you and hope to receive your support for our work.
