Operation Station:
A Message from Riverdale’s Public Works Department
If you see suspicious activity, please call 911. 911 will determine if your call is
an emergency or a non-emergency, and will respond accordingly. Photos are
not helpful to law enforcement if there is no report to go with the pictures.
We know it may feel weird to call 9-1-1 but that is truly what all Riverdale
residents need to do– even for things like noise complaints, parking issues,
loose dogs, etc. So, please remember– if something doesn’t look right, please
don’t hesitate to call! See something? Say something!
Did you know that Riverdale residents are allowed one
bulky item pickup per month?
Please call the office (563-355-2511), or email
deputyclerk@riverdaleia.org, by Friday at noon to let us know
your address and what item will be at the curb. Then have that
item at the curb the following Monday by 7a for pickup.
The following items are not eligible for bulky pickup:
electronics, shingles of any type, liquids or paint,
construction debris (e.g. large sections of drywall, lumber,
decking, fencing, etc.), appliances, and/or tires.
(Note: Appliances and tires
can be picked up on city-wide
cleanup days! 2024 dates
are Saturday, April 6 and
Saturday, October 19!)

Connie Allen
Connie Allen, long-time Riverdale resident, is our Get to Know Your Neighbor
this month! Connie has lived in the Haven’s Acres neighborhood of Riverdale
for over 30 years! Please, get to know your neighbor: Connie Allen.
How long have you lived in Riverdale? I have lived in Riverdale over 30 years
with my husband, David Allen. David had lived here for over 40 years! He
passed away one year ago this month.
Where did you grow up? I grew up in southeastern Iowa in a little town called Donnelson.
Would you like to share about your family? Dave and I have 3 grown children, 2 daughters, Carlee and
Natalie, and one son, Eddie. We have 5 grandchildren ranging from ages 6 to 26 years old!
Tell me about your job: I am a retired elementary and college teacher with a
Masters in Elementary Math.
Do you have any hobbies? I guess my passion is Special Olympics in Scott
County. My husband and I started volunteer coaching year-round over 30 years
ago. I am continuing to coach many sports. Right now it is powerlifting at the
QC Strongman facility. Tennis is my favorite though.
What is your favorite thing about Riverdale? During the days, weeks, and
months after my husband died, there were so many cards and condolences from
so many of our Riverdale residents. Neighbors stopped by just to see if I needed
anything or just to talk.
Have you ever served or volunteered in Riverdale? I have helped with the Easter egg hunts and earlier
fireworks programs that we used to have.
Do you have a favorite Riverdale event? Probably the Easter egg hunts!
Biggest change in Riverdale over the years? Dave and I loved to walk our dog down to the Mississippi Trail
off of Kensington, as well as watch all of the courteous bikers. When the gates were installed, that kind of
stopped. I really do miss that.
Any hidden gems in the Quad City area that you would like to share? The QC Strongman right in our
backyard. It is a wonderful facility, open 24 hours, with wonderful and experienced trainers. It is really
something to check out! They allow my 17 powerlifting athletes free admission. They also spend many
hours training and empowering them to be their best. They are a wonderful group of people that I am so
glad to be a part of!
Anything you would like to add? I really love living in Riverdale!
Be sure to say hello to Connie when you see her out
and about in Riverdale! Thank you for being in the
newsletter, Connie!

Spring Floods? If you weren’t able to join us on February 15th at City
Hall for the Flood Alliance meeting, you may want to know that we have
much lower than normal flood risks for this spring due to limited snow
pack to the north of us. You can read the official write up every two
weeks on the National Weather Service website here:
https://www.weather.gov/dvn/2024_springfloodoutlook
Some key details for the Rock Island gage:
Risk of minor flooding - ~30% chance (normal ~60%)
Risk of moderate flooding - ~20% chance (normal ~50%)
Risk of major flooding - ~10% chance (normal ~25%)
Remember – it takes 30 days to get flood insurance and there’s still a risk
of flooding no matter what.

LMI Ad Hoc Committee
When TIF is used in residential construction,
a percent of that money is required to be
reinvested in Low to Moderate Income
Housing.
We are forming a committee to explore
and recommend ways to expend this money
by reinvesting it into the residents in our
community first. If you’re interested in
joining, please reach out to staff or the
Mayor.
Have something to celebrate?
Did you know you can request a mayoral proclamation to
celebrate great accomplishments? We’ve celebrated
milestone birthdays, state championships, Eagle Scout
awards, business anniversaries, and other special days
related to residents, businesses, and organizations
in our community.
Email me at mayor@riverdaleia.org to request yours today!
February Top 10 List:
