Presents the following Ordinance Seconded by Councilman
AN ORDINANCE CREATING A CARTERET
CULTURAL AND ARTS COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the Borough of Carteret finds that preserving and
enhancing culture and art will promote the general health and welfare of the residents of
the Borough ofCarteret; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Body has determined that the establishment of a Carteret
Cultural and Arts Committee can help to preserve and enhance the culture of the Borough
of Carteret.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough
of Carteret that there shall be created a Carteret Cultural and Arts Committee for the
purpose of encouraging, preserving and enhancing the culture and arts of the community.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that there be added to the Code of the Borough of
Carteret a new chapter entitled "Cultural and Arts Committee" and shall read in its
entirety as follows:
Section 1.
CULTURAL AND ARTS COMMITTEE
Establishment.
There shall be a Cultural and Arts Committee in the Borough consisting of seven
(7) members who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the
Borough Council. Each member shall serve without compensation.
Members. Terms.
The Culture and Arts Committee shall consist of seven (7) members of the public.
The Culture and Arts Committee shall each serve for a term of three (3) years except that
the terms oflhe members first appointed to the Committee shall be as follows:
Two (2) for a term of one (I) year;
Two (2) for a term of two (2) years;
Two (3) for a t¡;rm of three (3) years.
Duties and Functions of Cultural and Arts Committee.
The Cultural and Arts Committee shall have the following duties and functions:
I. Seek and apply for any and all grants and outside funding related to preserving
and enhancing the arts and culture within in the Borough.
2. Organize and run programs and activities designed to promote the arts and an
appreciation for the arts for the education, pleasure and welfare of the residents.
3. Provide assistance to local artists and develop a central registry oflocal artists.
4. Carry out such other advisory, educational and informational functions as will
promote culture and arts in the Borough.
Quorum; Organization; By-Laws.
Four (4) members shall constitute a quorum for the conduct of official business
and for all other purposes. The Culture and Arts Committee shall elect a Chairman and
Vice Chairman from among its members. The Committee shall establish its own by-
laws.
SECTION 2. All Ordinances and/or provisions thereof inconsistent with the provision
of this Ordinance shall be and are hereby repealed as to the extent of any such
inconsistencies.

SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, part, clause or phrase ofthis Ordinance shall be
declared invalid by judgment of any Court of competent jurisdiction, the section,
subsection, part, clause or phrase shall be deemed to be sever able from the remainder of
lhis Ordinance.
SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall take effect upon passage and publication according
to applicabl¡; law.
